Year of Training is a unique and dynamic year of preparation for life and ministry. All the theoretical equipping is followed up with practical application, the students receiving ongoing discipleship as they share accommodation with their course leaders.

This course is designed to be a one year stand alone course with certification, or the first year of a full-time BA Theology course. The course is full-time and all students live together on the premises. We take a maximum of 20 students to keep our student to leader ratio no more than 3:1. The course runs for the duration of the academic year, which starts in September and finishes with graduation ceremony in July.

What’s the point?

Year of Training is a bible school with a difference. With the traditional biblical
and theoretical teaching comes the added bonus of character development.
The whole year is geared towards maturing the students and seeing godly
character established in their lives, alongside bringing growth in knowledge and
understanding of biblical principles and the Word of God. These two aspects
work together making Year of Training more than just an average Bible College….
it’s true foundation for life!

How do I qualify?
Do you feel a call of God on your life?
Do you want to be prepared to fulfil your destiny?
Are you at a turning point in your life?
Do you want practical training in leadership?
Do you want to discover who you are in Christ and what He’s created you for?
Do you have a desire to grow in knowledge and understanding of the Bible?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any or all of the above questions, you are over 18 years old and you’re                                                                          prepared to give God one year of your life to train and equip you to fulfil His purpose – then Year of Training is for you!

No other qualifications necessary

How do I apply?
You will need to complete an application form and send it along with confidential references filled out by two different people who have known you for two years or longer (e.g. your pastor, a friend, youth worker etc.) and a deposit of £50 to Southwest Training Centre. Once we receive your application we can process it, issue you with a student number and send you an acceptance letter with all the final course details. All applicants are prayerfully considered. Should you require a visa to study or stay in the United Kingdom, we can supply you with a letter outlining your intent to study at Southwest Training Centre.

What course material is covered?
Theory
A wide variety of theoretical subjects are covered
during the Year of Training. This includes Biblical
and theological equipping with subjects such as (to name a few):

Biblical World View
Christian Apologetics
New Testament Survey
Prayer & Intercession
Principles of Preaching

Each theoretical subject is followed up by either an assignment or a practical
task where the students get to put into practice what they have learnt.

Ministry
In addition to the theory, we emphasise the importance of ministry and practical application of the Word
of God. In this way the students get to be exposed to a variety of ministry fields such as (to name a few):

Work with homeless and underprivileged people
Ministry to senior citizens
Public speaking
Youth work across all ages and fields: children, junior youth, older youth, schools work Dance and Drama
Local, international and urban missions
Street and servant evangelism
Praise and worship
Community projects– traditionally, the students put on two major community events each year:
a fashion show and a children’s holiday club

Life Skills

As Year of Training aims to provide a foundation for life to the students, we have made a point to introduce in the curriculum training that is specifically related to life. The curriculum covers topics such as:

Master Management
Basic First Aid
Financial Stewardship
Multimedia Technologies
Learning to play a musical instrument

How much does it cost?

The cost is £6000 for the first year. This includes board
and lodging, tuition, books, and all mission trips.

The fees are payable in 12 monthly instalments of £500 per month. Students are permitted to work part-time (afternoons,
Mondays and Saturdays are generally free to work) in order to support themselves. We also encourage students to seek sponsorship from family, friends and student trusts. If you are able to find 10 people to sponsor you £50 per month each, this ensures your fees are covered for the year. The fees do not cover the full cost of running the course but in order to make it as affordable for the students as possible, the remainder is subsidised by Mudgeway Community Church as part of their mission’s giving.

What qualification do I receive?

At the end of Year of Training the student receives a Certificate in Christian Ministries by Church of the Nations. The course also
provides credits towards a BA Theological degree, which is accredited by Global / ICI University. This will benefit students who are called to continue studying their second year (by invitation only) or who decide to continue with Global University on their own. The emphasis however, is on seeing the students character developed, and effectively training and equipping them in whatever ministry they are called to.

How does the leadership structure within the Year of Training work?
Besides the overall oversight by Mudgeway’s eldership, a pastoral couple oversees the Training Centre. There are house parents, as well as a dedicated student leadership, who live with the students, and are actively involved with them, being responsible for the running and maintenance of the home. All the training centre leadership have themselves completed the Year of Training course.

“It has been such a privilege to see God move so powerfully in so many lives. The greatest miracle still remains the transformation of character.”
John Cable, Year of Training staff

“For many of us it’s been a challenging year! The price was high but worth paying and we can truly testify that our lives have been changed forever and we’ve come closer to being genuine sons and daughters of God. For anyone considering to do YOT - here is a fair comment: ‘Year of Training is only the beginning’, so enjoy the journey...” Ramona Fridsam, former Year of Training student

The destination is the journey
Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me Galatians 2:20 - NIV
